More than 200,000 people march across France against the health pass that bars the unvaccinated from restaurants, theaters, and other public spaces, one of the pandemic’s largest sustained protest movements. Governor Kristi Noem calls the Sturgis rally “a fantastic event” as case counts climb, brushing aside warnings from Fauci and other officials.

The vaccine story grows more complicated abroad. Iceland, among the most vaccinated countries on earth, reports a coronavirus surge, echoing the pattern seen in Israel. At home, Politico and The Atlantic describe an American data-reporting breakdown that leaves officials without a clear picture of the outbreak even as they issue confident guidance. A record of more than 1,900 children are hospitalized with COVID-19 nationwide, though how many were admitted for the virus rather than with it goes largely unexamined.
