logoCOVID-19 History

August 29, 2021

On ABC’s “This Week,” Anthony Fauci calls a projected 100,000 more deaths “predictable but preventable” and says he would support a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for schoolchildren, extending the reach of compulsory vaccination toward the young even before shots were authorized for most of them. He also warns Americans against taking ivermectin.

The policing of vaccine speech continues. Twitter permanently suspends writer Alex Berenson, labeled by Newsweek “the pandemic’s wrongest man,” removing a persistent critic of official claims from the platform entirely. Politico reports a third conservative radio host who condemned the vaccine has died of COVID, and The Atlantic runs “Vaccine Refusers Don’t Get to Dictate Terms Anymore,” arguing the unvaccinated should not expect accommodation from employers or insurers.

A CDC study circulates describing an unvaccinated Marin County teacher who infected 22 elementary students in May, cited as evidence for masking and vaccinating in schools. An NPR profile of a pastor who nearly died and now urges his congregation to get vaccinated rounds out a day heavy on persuasion aimed at the hesitant.
